about us

'Love your hospital' registered charity number 1049201
raises and manages the fundraising for the three
hospitals that make up the Western Sussex Hospitals
Charitable Trust.

The Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust are two acute general hospitals and one local general hospital serving the whole of West Sussex. Our sites are Worthing Hospital, St Richards Hospital in Chichester and Southlands hospital in Shoreham-by-sea. We are committed to providing excellent facilities for patients and staff but there's always more that can be done, that's why the Charity exists to ensure "That patients receive the best and most modern treatment". That their stay is made as comfortable as possible, and "That staff have the best working environment in order to provide first class patient care".

Most wards in each of the three hospitals have their own fund and donations from patients and visitors alike are always welcomed. The money will then be managed by the charitable trust to ensure that all donations are carefully recorded, thanked and invested until required. We run a range of fundraising initiatives from recycling to overseas events, organising skydives to the lottery and general fundraising.

We support all of our fundraisers in their efforts and are always so grateful to anyone who can help us raise money for our hospitals. Please help us to help you "Love your Hospitals"

Volunteer vacancies within the 'Love your hospital' charity

There are countless ways that you can support Southlands Hospital, St Richard's Hospital and Worthing Hospital other than by giving us money - why not try volunteering? We have a number of volunteers who help us in many different ways, from events to giving talks, from helping in the office to helping us from home, from putting up posters to research.

If you are interested in helping us do look through the opportunities listed below and if none of these appeal to you then do ring us on 0800 028 4890 and we can have a chat about how you can join the team!

Collecting box co-ordinators - various geographical areas.

Do you have some spare time and like meeting people? Would you be able to visit shops, pubs, clubs and businesses in your village or town and ask them to place a collecting box for Southlands Hospital, St Richard's Hospital and Worthing Hospital? Would you then be able to collect them and deliver them back to us?

Collecting boxes are a key source of income for our charity but with only two of us fundraising, we don't have the time to do the management of this so we need some key individuals to help us develop this side of our charity. Could you be our voice in the community and help us spread the word and some collecting tins? Do call us on
0800 028 4890!

Ambassadors

Do you like to talk to people? Would you like to give talks and presentations on the work of Southlands Hospital, St Richard's Hospital and Worthing Hospital? Could you stand up at a function and say "thank you" on behalf of the
hospital and collect a cheque? Could you do a school assembly and motivate five year olds to help their hospitals? Would you give up an afternoon at the WI for tea and cake? We have so many talks to go to that we cannot keep
up and need your help! Call 0800 028 4890 today!

Do you like events? Do have organisational skills or do you like to run a stall? Are you studying event management and would like to get some hands on experience, do you love fetes and fairs and could you work at some of ours?

Meet our team

Head of charity operations

I'd like to thank everyone involved in supporting the charity and its fundraising initiatives over the last three years. It's amazing to think that the three hospitals that fall under the new Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust that was formed on April 1st, 2009 have more than 1,100 beds and that our collective staff of 6,000 every year treat around 112,000 inpatients and day cases and see 436,000 outpatients. 121,00 people are treated in the two A&E departments and collectively we deliver around 5,600 babies - amazing!

The charity's objectives are to support the patients, families and staff and that's why fundraising and your donations are so important, it enables us to buy the added extras that deliver the very best diagnostic and therapy devices and the little things that make a stay in hospital more comfortable for the patients and also their visitors.

Added extras are not always in the form of pictures or soft furnishings for the ward, they are also considerable additions to the hospitals, for example, the MRI Scanner at St Richard's Chichester, the new Fernhurst Centre at Chichester, the £4.5 Million project is now fully operational and paid for totally by charitable donations to the Love Your Hospital Charity.  Now we have the £1 Million Cardiac Cath Lab Project at Worthing Hospital, as you can see, your support and input into our hospitals future is invaluable - thank you.

It is not only money that is forthcoming from our community but the tireless energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers who help us in the office, with events, with campaigns and with all aspects of our charity work.  You are part of our team and we truly value all you do for "Love your hospital charity".

Thank you to all our donors and volunteers for your devotion, enthusiasm and tireless dedication to your hospitals. We love you and you certainly 'love your hospital'.

Community & Events Fundraiser

I joined the Love your hospital fundraising team in October last year, having come from a hospice and hospital background.

I visit schools, organisations, businesses and corporations locally to promote and raise the profile of our charity and the valuable work it undertakes to support the fantastic staff and medical teams in Worthing, Southlands and St Richard's hospitals. The equipment we purchase and the localised large projects we fund like the £3 million Cancer Day Unit are specific to the needs of our local communities and ensure that the healthcare provided is delivered using the best and most up to date equipment that just is not available in the NHS budget.

I'm always amazed at the generosity of individuals and local businesses, if you visit our 'News & our community' page on this site you'll see some of the fantastic support we receive, its a real inspiration to me, and the team and staff at our hospitals knowing that people really do love and support us.

I consider myself a very lucky person as the job I do can make a difference to patients, staff and the families of those using our hospitals. Everyone has fought so hard to keep our local hospitals and the services they offer, and with you continued support we will be able to continue to give the care that everyone deserves.

If you'd like to help fundraise then please call me on 0800 028 4890, I'd be happy to discuss any ideas you may have and can also send you a fundraising pack to get you started.

What can I say… I'm constantly amazed at the generosity and energy of busy people.

Since the merger in April 2009 the charity office has been very busy managing the charitable and fundraising needs of all three hospitals although the 'Love your hospital' is based in Chichester were often found in Worthing and Shoreham meeting donors and staff and listening to the needs and requirements of the 85 ward funds we now manage.

If you find the idea of fundraising daunting don't let it be, it can be great fun and even if its not for you and you can always help someone else if you have the time and we can help put you in touch so just give us a call on 0800 028 4890.
